THIRD MOLAR EXTRACTION INFORMATION VIDEO
Third molars, or wisdom teeth, are the last set of permanent molars to emerge. While these wisdom teeth may not cause any problems, oftentimes the jaw is too small for these teeth to erupt into a functional position for proper chewing and hygiene. Most patients eventually experience complications with them. These complications include decay/cavities, infection, gum disease or cysts/tumors that can compromise the adjacent teeth and jaw. To minimize the risk of these events occurring, we typically recommend wisdom teeth extraction between ages 16-25. Though wisdom tooth extraction can be performed in older patients, there can be slower healing and a small, but increased risk of complications.
Wisdom tooth extractions are procedures best completed by trained specialists who perform this surgery on a daily basis. At Greene & Torio OMFS, we have received the highest level of clinical training in dental surgical procedures with an additional 4-6 years of dedicated oral surgery training after dental school. We also offer a variety of anesthesia options that can provide a more comfortable environment for the extraction of these teeth including IV Sedation, Oral Sedation, and Nitrous Oxide.
